Earth chair is a furniture piece that attempts to shed light on two issues facing Jordanians, questioning concrete as the main construction material, and the lack of reading. Concrete remains by far the most used material for construction in Jordan, when in fact, building with earth would be a more appropriate material given its geographic, geological, and cultural history. In the arid climate of Jordan, the use of local natural materials and using ancient technologies would create  more suitable spaces for dwelling than the industrial materials of concrete and steel. Furthermore, it raises the issue of self colonization and a loss of the Arab desert vernacular along with its crafts.

The ergonomic quality of the chair is designed to encourage reading, given that top reading countries read as much as 10 times as Jordanians. The contemporary use of earth and mud should aid in its reintroduction in a domestic setting and would encourage users to reconsider building with earth.
